B L U E B E A R D

Original tale by Charles Perrault
Adapted and Directed by Alice Anderson

Is the story of a blue bearded woman falling in love with a young man attached to his mother by a cord.”

Alice Anderson's Bluebeard plays with the conventions of the fairy tale. All the ingredients are there - lonely princesses, cruel maternal figures, beautiful boys, palaces full of treasure - but not in the right way.

The princess' has a beard, the boy is a girl, and it's the biological others who torment and abandon their offspring.

The Bluebeard theme has often been developed in literature and film. Rather than making one more version, Anderson has played with some of the basic elements of the tale, making it one of her “Freudian Tales”.
